As you know – I love using my camera to tell stories and capture happy moments of people of all ages. Newborns, toddlers, teenagers, newlyweds and so on. I love the fact that I can use my talent, creative vision and my beloved equipment to freeze a bit of time and give my clients something to treasure forever. Yet, recently my heart has been beating especially fondly for all the newborn home photo shoots that I have had and am due to have and there are tons of reasons why.
Don’t get me wrong, I love welcoming clients into my cosy home studio and creating styled images for them. I also never say no to venturing out into Devonshire splendid landscape. I honestly love these photo shoots. But there is something super special about visiting new babies in their homes. Meeting their lovely parents, siblings, (maybe slightly jealous) family pets and entering into the newly transformed life with a new baby is absolutely inspiring. By simply observing them and giving minimal guidance we can make the day special and make it unforgettable.
Every baby is different and so is every photo shoot
I do have a rough list of shots that I would like to or was requested to take but majority of the photo shoot is totally baby and family led. I always try to be an observer more than a director. I offer some guidance and help families feel at ease but I also want them to stay true to themselves and only do what feels natural to them. I love entering the house and utilising the ambience of my clients’ home to tell THEIR story. About THEIR family and THEIR baby. A story so unique that it is impossible to recreate it even in the smallest detail.
Baby Cara bathed in sunshine
A couple of weeks ago I visited baby Cara (of mere 2 weeks) in her family home in Devon. As I was travelling to them I was both blinded by the harsh sunlight and scared by thick fog on the motorway. But these soon turned out to be (photographer’s) blessings in disguise. When I arrived in Cara’s house, all the sunlight coming through the house created a beautiful fresh and bright atmosphere which allowed us to capture Cara bathed in sunrays. The sunglow was omnipresent.
I also met 2 family cats which were also featured in „Baby Cara” story. One of the cats was much more confident in front of the camera and photo bombed a few of my shots whereas the other one preferred to be a still model, blissfully resting on a bed.
I am thrilled to share with you a story of Baby Cara and her loving home – house full of love, tenderness, joy and sunshine. I am always humbled by the openesss and hospitality that my clients welcome me with and this time it was no different.
THANK YOU ever so much Michelle for choosing me to photograph your gorgeous baby and family <3 See you again in the future 🙂
